Comparison of Crop Trait Retrieval Strategies Using UAV-Based VNIR Hyperspectral Imaging.

2021

Hyperspectral cameras onboard unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have recently emerged for monitoring crop traits at the sub-field scale. Different physical, statistical, and hybrid methods for crop trait retrieval have been developed. However, spectra collected from UAVs can be confounded by various issues, including illumination variation throughout the crop growing season, the effect of which on the retrieval performance is not well understood at present. In this study, four retrieval methods are compared, in terms of retrieving the leaf area index (LAI), fractional vegetation cover (fCover), and canopy chlorophyll content (CCC) of potato plants over an agricultural field for six dates duri…

Benign focal liver lesions: spectrum of findings on SonoVue-enhanced pulse-inversion ultrasonography.

2005

The prevalence of benign focal liver lesions (BFLL) is high both in the general population and in patients with known malignancies. The gray-scale ultrasound (US) technique is usually the first-line imaging modality used in the radiological workup of such lesions, but unfortunately it lacks specificity. Furthermore, Doppler examination may often be unsatisfactory owing to motion artefacts, or when small or deeply located lesions are evaluated. Recently, microbubble-based contrast agents used in combination with gray-scale US techniques, which are very sensitive to nonlinear behavior of microbubbles, have led to a better depiction of both microvasculature and macrovasculature of focal hepati…

Time-domain-induced polarization: Full-decay forward modeling and 1D laterally constrained inversion of Cole-Cole parameters

2012

Time-domain-induced polarization has significantly broadenedits field of reference during the last decade, from mineralexploration to environmental geophysics, e.g., for clay and peatidentification and landfill characterization. Though, insufficientmodeling tools have hitherto limited the use of time-domaininducedpolarization for wider purposes. For these reasons, anew forward code and inversion algorithm have been developedusing the full-time decay of the induced polarization response, together with an accurate description of the transmitter waveformand of the receiver transfer function, to reconstruct thedistribution of the Cole-Cole parameters of the earth. The accuratemodeling of the tra…

Crystal structure and absolute configuration of (4S,5R,6S)-4,5,6-trihydroxy-3-methylcyclohex-2-enone (gabosine H)

2017

The absolute configuration of the title compound, determined as 4S,5R,6S on the basis of the synthetic pathway, was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecule is formed by a substituted six-membered cyclohexene ring adopting an envelope conformation and substituted by carbonyl, methyl and hydroxyl groups. The supramolecular structure is mainly built by a combination of O—H⋯O and weaker C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Transmission of mechanical energy through polymeric liquid crystals and their blends

1988

Molecular composites, also called polymeric liquid crystals (PLC), are contrasted with the traditional composites; the name heterogeneous composites is proposed for the latter. Advantages of blending PLCs with ordinary engineering polymers are discussed. Results reported for blends of poly(ethylene terepthalate) (PET) with a PLC containing sequences of PET and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHB) include thermophysical properties, melt rheology, mechanical properties of solid blends, and scanning electron microscopy of fracture surfaces. A model called the island model was developed to explain the results: One assumes that the lines of force as well as propagating cracks tend to concentrate in the p…

Evaluation of the apparent diffusion coefficient in patients with recurrent glioblastoma under treatment with bevacizumab with radiographic pseudores…

2017

Abstract Background Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology Criteria (RANO), are used to asses response to first-line treatment of glioblastoma (GBM). Differentiation between response and pseudoresponse under treatment with Bevacizumab (BVZ) remains challenging. This study evaluates ADC changes in patients with radiographic pseudoresponse under treatment with (BVZ). Methods Patients (n = 40) with recurrent GBM under-treatment with BVZ underwent MRI before, two and four months after treatment with BVZ. In patients with radiological pseudoresponse (n = 11), ADC analyses were performed. Areas with decreasing T1 contrast enhancement (CE) and FLAIR signal decrease were manually selected and compar…

Liver haemangiomas undetermined at grey-scale ultrasound: contrast-enhancement patterns with SonoVue and pulse-inversion US.

2005

The objective of this study was to describe the spectrum of contrast-enhancement patterns of hepatic haemangiomas undetermined at grey-scale ultrasound (US) on SonoVue-enhanced pulse-inversion (PI) US. Twenty patients (11 women, nine men) with 35 haemangiomas (size range: 1-7 cm; mean: 3.1 cm) undetermined at baseline US underwent PI at low M.I. (0.05-0.08) after i.v. injection of SonoVue. All haemangiomas were confirmed by typical helical computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings. US examinations were videotaped and then reviewed by two experienced radiologists blinded to the final diagnosis. Readers evaluated by consensus the baseline echogenicity and the d…

Non-markovian dynamics and spectrum of a moving atom strongly coupled to the field in a damped cavity

1993

Abstract We study the internal dynamics of an atom entering in its excited state in a damped cavity and strongly coupled to the field. We show that the time evolution of its dipole operator is described by a second order Langevin-like equation with time dependent coefficients. We use this equation to investigate the time dependence of the average population inversion and the spectrum of the emitted radiation. We discuss how Rabi oscillations are modified by the motion of the atom and how the spectrum changes from the vacuum Rabi doublet to a more complex structure having new lines, different frequency localizations and modified widths.

Experimental introgression in Drosophila : Asymmetric postzygotic isolation associated with chromosomal inversions and an incompatibility locus on th…

2022

Interspecific gene flow (introgression) is an important source of new genetic variation, but selection against it can reinforce reproductive barriers between interbreeding species. We used an experimental approach to trace the role of chromosomal inversions and incompatibility genes in preventing introgression between two partly sympatric Drosophila virilis group species, D. flavomontana and D. montana. We backcrossed F1 hybrid females from a cross between D. flavomontana female and D. montana male with the males of the parental species for two generations and sequenced pools of parental strains and their reciprocal 2nd generation backcross (BC2mon and BC2fla) females. Contrasting the obser…

FISH mapping of the sex-reversal region on human chromosome 9p in two XY females and in primates

2000

Accumulating evidence suggests that haploinsufficiency of a dosage-sensitive gene(s) in human chromosome 9p24.3 is responsible for the failure of testicular development and feminisation in XY patients with monosomy for 9p. We have used molecular cytogenetic methods to characterise the sex-reversing 9p deletions in two XY females. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) with YACs from the critical 9p region containing an evolutionarily conserved sex-determining gene, DMRT1, is a very fast and reliable assay for patient screening. Comparative YAC mapping on great ape and Old and New World monkey chromosomes demonstrated that the critical region was moved from an interstitial position on the…
